Whether it’s a dream, a person, a place, or even a piece of clothing you saw at the store, we all know that feeling when we want something so badly that it hurts. Including me. And yet, time and time again, life teaches me something beautiful: What is yours will find you. At the right time. In the right place.
It reminds me of a verse:
Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know.
[Al-Baqarah: 216]
We chase things thinking they’re it. The job, the person, the opportunity. But sometimes, Allah holds us back. Not because we’re not ready for it, but maybe, it’s not ready for us. Or maybe there’s a version of us we haven’t grown into yet. One that can carry the responsibility, the joy, and even the test that comes with the thing we’re praying for.
I remember utilizing my safar during a rainy night to pray for something, and yet nothing happened. Only several years later, that something shows itself, and I remember thinking: So this is the Plan all along. It wasn’t what I expected. It was better—in fact—the best. Softer. Wiser. And strangely enough, it felt like it had always been meant for me.

What did I know. That’s qadr and divine timing. It's Allah’s perfect orchestration.
ÙˆَاعْÙ„َÙ…ْ Ø£َÙ†َّ Ù…َا Ø£َØ®ْØ·َØ£َÙƒ Ù„َÙ…ْ ÙŠَÙƒُÙ†ْ Ù„ِÙŠُصِيبَÙƒ، ÙˆَÙ…َا Ø£َصَابَÙƒ Ù„َÙ…ْ ÙŠَÙƒُÙ†ْ Ù„ِÙŠُØ®ْØ·ِئَÙƒ
Know that what has passed you by was never going to befall you, and what has befallen you was never going to pass you by.
[Status: Hasan Sahih | Hadith 19]
This is a very comforting hadith from Imam Nawawi's forty collection. It's not just giving comfort, it’s also about trust. Trusting that our story is being written by the One who knows every pause, every turn, and every beat of our heart.
He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.
[Al-An-'am: 59]
The things meant for us? They’re already on their way. They don’t need to be forced or rushed. They will arrive when both our heart and the moment are aligned.
So if you’re in a season of waiting: You are not falling behind. You are being prepared. Every delay and redirection is part of the wisdom. And maybe one day, we’ll look back and smile at how things unfolded. How that 6 years turns to “what did I do to deserve this”. How you ended up right where you were always meant to be.
Until then, breathe and make du’a. It might not be the outcome of our prayers and actions alone, but I can't stress enough how much power the du'a holds. It is magical.
The rest, leave space for the miracles only Allah can write into our story. Because if we can't seem to find what is ours, what is ours will find us.
